Bushy Park 11/23

I went fishing with my dad today. We started off with some topwater and stuck with that until it was time to start heading back to the landing. Then we switched to trolling some lipped Yo-Zuri lures. Trolling didn’t get a bite, but that was the first time I’ve tried it in the river. I meant to take an Alabama rig to troll with, but I left it in the garage.

I got four nice trout and a new personal best striper while I was throwing topwater. I told my dad that if I hooked up with a fish he should throw right where I got bit. Almost every time I hooked up with a fish, he was playing with his phone or sitting down daydreaming. Anyway we had a great time, and it was actually a really nice day before noon.

Water temperature was 61 degrees everywhere, and water clarity was excellent!

Nice!

That first pic is cool. It looks like the fish’s body is still in the water, or emerging through a StarGate lol. I had to scroll up and down to figure out what’s going on lol.

Well done hoof

Seem to be doing alright since you switched up hooks for topwater.

Those were the stock hooks on that lure. That striper really bent them up pretty badly. They will be replaced before it hits the water again.

My favorite topwater lure tried to fly to the moon on a cast on my last fishing trip. It ended up in the middle of the grass where I couldn’t get to it.

^^^That’s a pro tip right there, fellas. Good job as usual, Hoof.

“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

Every time I throw one of those lures my line gets in the hooks. What am I doing wrong or how should I be throwing it?

Are you tying braided line directly to the lure?

If so, try a leader with a loop knot on the lure end.
