I took my “baby” brother fishing today. We hit up my same old spot at the top of Yellow House Creek. We got to the spot about an hour before dead low tide. We pulled up to the same spot my dad and I were working yesterday. We saw a lot of reds chasing mullet around on the flat. We sneaked up near them and tried live mullet and live shrimp on jigheads around the edges of areas where they were swimming and chasing baitfish.
We couldn’t get anything to bite, and as the water started moving back in we watched the fish make there way up into a creek mouth. We went as far up into the creek as we could get with the trolling motor and couldn’t really cast far enough to reach where we saw fish working bait.
“Time to break out the big, ugly, blue, homemade push pole!” I said. So I put two poles dragging live mullet behind us at different distances, and my brother sight casted to where we saw fish. We followed the fish and bait up into this creek and got two nice ones to eat. My brother had a few misses, but boy, oh boy was it a fun day of hunting redfish!
Both catches were over slot. My brother’s fish was 31", mine was 29".
There were more mullet in the creeks today than yesterday, and the reds were super active chasing them around.
Water temperature at the mouth of the creek was 59 degrees, water temperature where we stopped pushing in was 64 degrees!
Very nice That’s the same sort of place I’ve been finding them. It’s amazing how far up those those little drains the reds will go. All the way until they can’t go any more.

Heading out to my spot on Yellow House again today. I’m taking my Army veteran cousin out. He’s never caught a redfish before. Hopefully I can change that.
If you see a yellow Sterling with my blue push pole on it, stop and say hi.
