I went yakkin’ with my buddy today. He got two trout, one keeper and one undersized. I got two 22 1/2" reds. He was throwing a DOA shrimp under a popping cork. I was throwing the same Bomber Badonk-a-donk SS.
I had some camera malfunctions with my phone or I would have gotten more pictures. The wind got pretty strong as we headed out at high tide. It died when we started catching fish, and then the bugs got really bad. It was a fun day and a great start for our first trip of the year in the yaks.

Sounds like a great trip really. We got skunked at the tailrace. I thought twice about going to Bushy but I want to get a trolling motor on the boat first before I try to do inshore, and I got a few weeks before I’ll be getting it.
Time to invest in the face nets for the gnats and no-see-ums and wear long sleeve white shirts lol. Bushy can be a real bear for bugs.

Wearing a buff, hat, and long sleeves helped a lot. My buddy had it right wearing long pants. I don’t like using bug spray when I’m fishing if I don’t have to. I have a theory that it repels fish too.

We used to mix regular deet bug spray (Off!, Cutter, etc.) with Skin So Soft for the gnats when I was down in Beaufort and Parris Island. It worked pretty well. I think the oil in the Skin So Soft suffocates the gnats more than repels them. I’d always end up with a bunch of dead ones stuck to me.
Like I said, it’s a theory. I’m especially careful with slow moving/finesse baits. Quick moving, live, or noisy baits I don’t worry about their smell as much.

NattyLight, they have it at a contract post office on Savannah Hwy, near Costco. Also some of the Piggly Wigglys have EvadaBug made on Edisto it works too.
Also available at Haddrells is No Natz haven’t tried it yet but have seen a lot of people buying it

Thanks! I’ll check out the Pig and Haddrell’s. If those don’t work I’ll go find the post office place. The noseeums were getting bad in Georgetown Sunday (on land) and reminded me I need to find some of this stuff for the spring / summer.
