Bushy Park 6/15

I took my boy fishing with me this morning. We launched just before the sun came up over the horizon. I stopped by my top water spot, but the water was really rushing out. My trolling motor was sort of keeping up, but it was too awkward to even try to mess with it.
We headed on up to my usual creek and I trolled and casted my way on in. My son had a minnow on a hook with a green/silver skirt and spinner blade under a bobber. This is the rig that he landed a flounder with the last time we were in this area.
After trolling up to the spot I had in mind, I set the anchor and got two rods with Carolina rigs and mud minnows in the water. I got my son’s bobber rig where it needed to be and rigged up another rod with a mud minnow under a bobber.
Once we were set up, we had some breakfast. Shortly after we finished eating, one of the Carolina rigs get hit. I reeled in a small foul-hooked blue cat. About 15 minutes later, my boy’s rod bends over, and he reeled in a nice slot red. It was all hoots, hollers, hugs, kisses, and high fives! This was his first redfish ever, and I could not be prouder. He fought it and reeled it all the way to the boat all by himself. He kept saying " That fish is mad, Daddy!" every time it took off on a run.
A little while later I reeled in that redfish’s twin. More high fives, hooting, and hollering.
We hung out until after lunch time, and then went on a nice boat ride. What an awesome day!

Outstanding work, Hoof! All of the pics of Hoof, Jr. are awesome, but the 14th and 15th are my favorites. You should frame one/some of them and show it to him when he’s older so he can truly appreciate what daddy’s taught him.

My plan is to print out a bunch of the pictures and have him help me make a collage to hang up in his room.
