We’ve been friends since we were kids. We all now have kids. Lately it has been tough for all three of us to get together and tougher to get together for a whole day of fishing.
We launched before sunrise and went after the top water bite. We got a few hits but no hook-ups. We headed into a creek where we usually can make one cast of the net and fill up the live well, but mullet were tough to come by. We trolled around looking for mullet as we threw artificials. Only one of us was hot, and he was en fuego. He was throwing redbone Zman Paddlerz on a trigger hook. He got two over slot reds and a flounder on that. My other buddy and I were being stubborn and throwing lures that we couldn’t buy a bite on.
Finally around noon the trolling motor was pretty worn out from fighting with the tide all day, so we headed back out into the river to fish with the five mullet we netted and a few fiddlers we scooped up. “Old Hot-Hand” happened to be standing next to the rod that bent over while we were anchored up and goofing off, and landed a small (good eating size) catfish.
It was a really fun day out with two of my best friends. We had a few beers and a lot of laughs and we made a few more fishing memories to tell our kids about at the next birthday party.
