Hey all, new to the forum, want to get some advice for decent fishing areas. The wife and I put in yesterday at Bushy Park, cruised around a little bit and I noticed the security forces by the sub pens pointing a rather large machine gun at my un-gunboat. I noticed it is a restricted area for 4.8 miles thru there. What is on the other end of the restricted area? Any good fishing? We fished closer to the landing in on of the canals and caught a few spotted trout and not much else. Not looking for anyones honey hole, just some good areas we might try. New to fishing with a boat in this area and Bushy Park is conveniently close to home. Thanks for any help yall!
From my understanding you must stay on a plane through that area and yes plenty of good fishing in the Cooper once you get through that area, good ride
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

When you get to the Subs turn left (coming from Bushy Park) that is Yellow House Creek. It runs parallel to the Cooper and will rejoin the Cooper across from the North Charleston Port just up from the Don Holt. There can be good fishing in there, I’ve had successful days and unsuccessful days. Crabbin’, if your into it, is also good in there. Most of all you won’t have any guns pointed at you.
PS, not sure what boat you have, but be careful in Yellow House at low tide. Some places can be pretty shallow.
A bad day fishin’ is better than a good day at work!
you can drive through the restricted area, just don’t stop. The little creeks are your best bet anyway.
and as I’m sure you’ve figured out by now, plan your times at the Bushy Park ramp carefully or you’ll be waiting for high tide on a mud flat. Good luck!
But then he can convince his wife to let him stay longer! Considering how low it gets there’s nothing she can do about it !

lol thanks guys for your helpful hints! Hmmm more time on the water is ALWAYS a good thing. I’ve already found out about getting out of Bushy too close to low tide. Churned up mud halfway out til i could get planed off. But coming in was a breeze. Love the forum and reading everyones posts and hopefully learning from yalls experience. Thanks again!
