I did the mistake of putting my boat in at Bushy Park at low tide today,, i know there has to be a way to do this with a jon boat, i went toward the middle going out and almost plowed a ditch most of the way out,[:0] is there a deeper way to go out? right or left side or aim at the buoy or some kind of hint, there was another jon boat that unloaded when i did and he went out before i could see which way he went, and he had no problem, i did not see which way he went, help please [:0]
Havenât tried launching at low tide, but coming in,I stay a little to the left( coming to the landing), as stated above stay on plane until you get close enough to drift to the dock, chop your throttle and coast in, riding the wake. If you have to, you can lift the prop out of the water to avoid dragging it as you come in.
it is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission
that was my mistake, i tried to idle out and wow the pluff mud was there,i started to panic, i was at a point of no return, this was the first time with my jon boat at low tide, i would never try it with my other boat, next time i will plane out immediately or do some better planning period, thanks guys
Agreed with the above. Hole shot, get on plane, and hold it until you get to the river.
Keep in mind, in your effort to avoid the low tide launch, do NOT hornswaggle yourself into a low-tide trailering event. That can be much worse.
My boat has such a small outboard that it wonât plane, and my trolling motor is almost useless in the pluff, so I avoid the launch at low tide under any/every circumstance. I never go far from the launch since I can only top out at around 12mph lol, so needless to say I prefer to show up about two hours past low tide (water is deep enough then, usually, to move around). Gives me time to get in, fish, and get out.
