For those who may have missed yesterday’s news, Berkeley County officials have put the new boat ramp on hold till the new Supervisor takes over in January, 2019.
They did the same thing in 2014 when Peagler was elected. We know what happened with that. In-coming Supervisor Cribb says that it is needed BUT blah, blah blah.
I will be contacting my councilman, the old and new supervisor to express my displeasure with this decision. I hope others will join me:roll_eyes:
I was glad to see it on the front page of the Post and Courier the other day. At least the incoming guy is a sportsman.

Figures…
At that meet and greet meeting, Peagler said this would likely happen if he didn’t get re-elected… not sure if it was a tactic to get votes or an actual warning…and I’m still not convinced one way or the other. I am however inclined to follow your lead on voicing my displeasure on the matter as well. Thanks for the update.

I hope they don’t close down the old landing when the new one gets built. My sources tell me ,the powers that be put the kibosh on the new landing.Time will tell, until then I’ll enjoy a more peaceful Cooper.
Yes, it is quite peaceful now, but I would like to be able to have access whenever I felt like going. Not be dependent on a tide chart.
I sent an email today to my Councilman, Peagler and incoming Supervisor Cribb urging them to continue to move forward with this project. In reality, Berkeley County residents started paying for the new ramp in 2014 when the 1% sales tax increase was implemented.
Why should work stop just because a new Boss is coming on board in 5 months. That does not happen in the real world (Civilian). I will try to hold my County government accountable for their promises. I will also be voting in favor of a paid Administrator to run the County this November in hopes of preventing things like this every four years.

Amen to both!!

I did receive a reply from Mr. Cribb and yes he is a boater and has/does use both sides of Bushy Park. He does understand the recreation aspect and promised to work not only on Bushy Park but improving all landings in the County.
I told him thanks, but I still did not agree with the project being put on hold since the Engineers have been paid and the County has a full time Grant Administrator whose job is to find the money.
The County didn’t say work would start in October of this year, they said they would have plans finalized by then. I see no reason why all of the administrative work can’t continue. In 2013 we were promised a solution to be in place by 2016. We are in the back side of 2018 and being told nothing will done till 2019, maybe.
I’m retired now, so harassing the County will be a nice diversion for me.
Thank you quarterpound for keeping the pressure on this

Thanks quarterpound. Keep the pressure on, be relentless, don’t let them sleep. Berkeley county government has more liars than the federal government. Were you able to speak with Cribb?
Only one time via email
I called Cribb yesterday, no reply so far. I will give it a few day’s.
I have not received any response from Berkeley County supervisor or my councilman. Come November, I think I will vote for the paid administrator type of government. Think my councilman needs to go as well in 2020. He’s gotten too comfortable in the good ole boy network. They all have.
Amen!

Thanks for the follow up QP

New boat landing is a hoax. It is not going to happen and that is just my opinion. I do believe the government does not want a new boat landing on the Cooper. Cost too much and there is no land to put it.

This could be way off on this one, but An acquaintance of mine said there has been a lot of pressure behind the scenes from some locals to stall the boat landing because they don’t want the traffic on the river.
ON a side note congratulations on being retired Quarterpounder!
quote:Darn locals, why would they want less traffic on the river?Besides building a big marina at Bushy Park they should build a house on every piece of land along the Cooper and every creek also.Make it more like the Wando, that would be nice.

Sman, if I lived on a river I would be like the darn locals. Not faulting them, just making a general statement. It’s been 15 years since I put in there and I never see myself doing it again due to closer areas for me. But I can sure understand those in that area wanting the public access.
I wish I lived up by you Fred ,I’d be putting in near Dale at the old railroad bridge. We had a club straight across from that landing and I know those waters like the back of my hand.Combahee Gun Club near the Williman islands.

If you don’t mind me asking your age? I’m 51, Dad has hunted that area way back. We were just talking about how small and scares deer were back in the day. He remembers a large 8 point and bragging rights on a 110# while many does taken might be 60#/.
Dad was telling me about a slaughterhouse in that area and some of the Huge Shark that were brought out of the Coosaw creek. He’s getting some age and his memory is still pretty good. Remembers taking wagon trips from Yemassee to Lobeco/sea brook point. I’m really interested in some of the shark and size he has described coming out of that area. Got to figure we had “mary Lee” (a tagged 3600# great white pinging off Morgan Island, Hilton Head and deep into Charleston Harbor.
