Bushy Park, Down but not out!

Shot out to Goose Creek 12:45 at my first spot and the wind was kicking. Decided to try the opposite side of the river and the boat would not crank. Thought my shifter was the problem and then thinking the battery but just as I started to change over the battery to one of my trolling motor battery the thought came to me that all that’s on my cranking battery is operating fine. Pull the cowling and see the solenoid is not engaging. Called my mechanic (Big B ) no answer so I kept fishing, In my cowling I always knew their was a pull rope; Made good use of it and cranked with no problems decided to get back closer to home where many were out in case I needed a pull to the landing ( Yes I have Boaters US). Pushed to Bushy park ( Lower Cooper river) and was determine that this was not gonna ruin a fishing day but I was looking at a TRUE SKUNK until a 27.5" Red slammed my line and I tagged and released and pulle4d a couple times and cranked and headed to the hill. Thought of the day ( Think things through before panicking) besides I knew once I got in the main channel someone would have helped. This I can bank on over the years of being on the waters.

Improvise, overcome and adapt. Good job not letting adversity keep you from fishing.

Excellent report. Way to push through it and avoid a skunk.

I once pulled a guy from Yellow House all the way to bushy.Took about 2 hours.Lost fishing time but got him home safe.

Good job. Like Dabo Swinney would say. “You might bend alittle. But, you didnt break!” Thanks for the report. Hope to get out there Tuesday.

Try that on todays motors…you gots to take off the cover on the fly wheel and make a rope starter cord.

I rope started a Mercury 125 tower of power about 30 miles off North Myrtle Beach…a long time ago.

I carry a full set of tools…and a rope starter out of an old snapper mower…just in case.

Panic serves no one. Inshore, you may be uncomfortable…offshore, you can get in big trouble.

Thanks for sharing your day.

Does security ever run you off in Goose Creek? I’ve seen the signs in there & see people fishing, but have wondered. There are some nice gators in the creek as well.

Thanks guys! I’ll be ready to go this weekend if the rain holds off. About Security; They won’t bother you if your fishing at the first white house and beyond. If your fishing anywhere short of that someone would call it in and they’ll inform you where to fish. I don’t ruffle there feathers and they only stop when I’m hooked up.
