Bushy Park Dredge 2016 ?

Y’all see this on the news last night? Sounded like it’ll be 2016 until they have their ducks in a row, but seems promising!

This would be great if it happened. I didn’t see what they said, care to elaborate?

Something to the effect that it has been ‘approved’ and the money should be in place by 2016…I caught the tail end of the story. It was on Live 5 News.

Changes coming for fishermen out of Berkeley County. The county says they are moving forward with plans to dredge the Bushy Park boat landing.

Fishermen have been complaining that the landing area is too muddy and they often have to wait to go out or chance getting stuck.

Joseph Tallon, fisherman, ?It’s sad that the landing is in such bad shape, the silting that has filled in over there, so it’s only usable for half the time,

couple hours below high tide, couple hours below high tide. If you get near high tide, you run the risk of doing hundreds of dollars if not thousands of dollars of damage to your boat.?

Many fishermen we talked to Tuesday agreed, saying they have to time trips to Bushy Park for fishing carefully.

The approval to dredge Bushy Park was approved through a referendum back in November, however that money won’t be collected until 2016, so if they do decide to dredge before then, that money will have to be bonded. That won’t be decided until the new administration comes in January.

Here are the facts, earlier this year News 2 contacted the Army Corps of Engineers to see if a permit was filed to dredge the area…after hearing from many fishermen about the boat landing problem.

Berkeley county officials had applied for a permit to dredge the area back in the fall of last year. The hold up was a funding feasibility study, which is now finished.

The other issue is the seasonal window for dredging which is between November and March.

We will continue to follow this story?

There we go! Thank you

Got to get state & federal permits first, as well as a CZC from DHEC. That can be a pretty long process. Have not seen an application or public notice yet. Guess they will be trying to use a Corps of Engineers disposal site? That can be tough too.

why is a north Carolina station covering this?

It’s a “connect”
they are just reusing someone else’s report.

The permit application is on public notice. Berkeley County proposes to dredge 61,000 cubic yards to create a channel 1,750’ long x 100’ wide and -8’ at mean low water. The spoil is proposed to go to Yellow House Creek CDF. Comments can be sent to:
