Bushy Park Landing

Do you guys think that marking a channel out of the landing with PVC poles with reflective tape would help keep what’s left of the channel deep enough to get out?

Yes sir it would help,I’m surprised no one has done it yet.If I wasn’t so old and broke down, I would have been done it. I for one, thank you for marking the channel and if you have been catching any just pm me because I don’t get out there much anymore.

Used to fish out there in my Kayak but its been a while. Can you even get out at low tide anymore? I have a Gheenoe but i am still skeptical about making it out or in during a low…

You have to watch the tides but it can be done. Coming in on plane until you get close to the landing will get you in but going out is nearly impossible at a negative tide. Came in Saturday at low tide and both docks were sitting on the mud. Got her loaded up with some work

This photo was taken 6 years ago in July. Not sure a “channel” exists anymore, but a nice idea.

I know it wasn’t the intent, but that landing and all the bullshit/delay/no fixing it really chaps my ass.

as you were.

Hey, this is a family site, you can’t talk like that. Band Peapod.

"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?

No markers Please.

The “channel” is only 4-6 inches deeper than the rest of the cove and only 20ft or so wide.

It is not wide enough for 2 boats to pass while on plane especially if you are dodging PVC pipes.

I would support markers if there was still a defined channel but it’s long gone.

As of right now, nothing is planned for the landing. Dredging is only a temporary fix for the silting and expensive. I’ve been considering just selling my boat and get it off the tax base. Re-diversion canal is primary cause for up river silting, but helped the harbor which cost’s a lot more to dredge. More silt drops up-river, not the harbor.

I would love to know how that “New” ramp got public attention, when it wasn’t even feasible. (**(), it would have been nice to see.

Disagree…this landing was fine until the ships/barges started going to Nucor.

Cooper River re-diversion project was completed in 1985 which reduced the flow of freshwater to the harbor by 70%. This resulted in more silting up river due to reduced flow.
The ramp opened in 1989 and silting problems were beginning to be reported with in a couple of years of use. Nucor opened in the mid 1990’s.

I’m sure that a link could established about barge traffic, but it is by no means the cause. It’s lack of water flow. Plain and simple, ramp is in the wrong spot.

We put in at bushy park a long time before 1989,at least 25 to 30 years prior to that.Maybe that’s when the fancy floating docks were installed, big waste of money.I like bushy more every time I go there.

Put in at Cypress and drive all the way around. Added benefit of freshwater rinse on the trailer and motor flush. Just don’t go when they are having a bass tournament.

Sman, I did the same thing

I don’t subscribe to the barge theory, I’m sure it doesn’t help, but anytime you cut a channel with no flow its gonna silt in over time. Look at Garris landing for example. Also, you can see many places along the ICW where the twisty creek was cut in a straight line and the turns in the creek are completely silted in.

Anyway…I was intrigued by PeaPod’s comment. I thought he was in the “keep it as-is… it keeps people away” camp? New year, new PeaPod? :stuck_out_tongue:

Pod just trying to start something.haha

I want em to fix bushy park and leave garris alone. I’m complicated.

I myself, do not want to see the current boat ramp channel dredged out.
When it opened, it was the busiest ramp in the tri-county. It is poorly designed, not enough area for staging. To position a trailer could require pulling into the road way in order to line up with a ramp. Four ramps available but almost impossible for more than 2 launches at a time unless the other boater is out of the way down the ramp. inadequate parking across the road. At times I had to park on the side of the road more than a quarter of a mile away with a 30 foot tandem axle trailer. It didn’t turn on a dime/ 2 lane road.
If Berkeley county was serious about a new boat ramp like the one the previous Supervisor touted in an effort to get re-elected, they could do it. In the exact same proposed location!

  1. Deny Cooper River Partners any new construction permits unless they agree to release property.
  2. Condemn and seize the property through eminent domain and public good.

Berkeley County gets too much tax money from Cooper River Partners to piss them off. Milken/Pacolet are the primary owner’s of Cooper River Partner’s
And no, they are never going to build their world Head quarter’s on that property. They already have one upstate. Pacolet is a French company that bought Miliken years ago.

Yeah, I know! Long winded, but I did some research when the new ramp was shot down. Sorry.

I might be showing my age but i can remember when there were no landings on either side, the fresh water side was just dirt and dirt parking lot. On the salt water side was a 50 gal barrel anchored about 100 yards from the dirt landing and we would swim to the barrel and back, the road stopped about 100 yards past the two landings with nothing but woods, no chemical plants. It has gotten worst ever since.

Yep ,the cat’s out of the bag, you’re as old as dirt.haha Do you remember pulling vehicles back up on the road or getting pulled out when it had been raining?
