Bushy Park Sunday THANK YOU DNR!!

Hit Bushy Park Sunday to catch the low tide and first part of incoming. Fished for a few minutes after catching some shrimp and mullet for bait when DNR pulled up to check me and my son’s fishing license and such. No big deal my stuff is right…What a Bozo I am! Fishing July 9th with a saltwater license expired on July 8th. DRRRRR, well I appreciate those guys letting me off with a warning! My Sportsman license is good through Mid Sept but I didn’t look at the bottom where Saltwater fishing expired July 8th. Check your license! LOL So ended up with an awful sunburn and halfway to heatstroke, 9 trout 4 keepers out of the bunch, 1 short red and my very first stingray caught on a float…wow. All on live shrimp and Cajun float. Put in at 1:30 and fished till 6pm, it was a hot one. No real big ones picture worthy but good heat of the day action anyway!

Nah, that can’t be! They’re all just terrible terrible people I tell ya!

In all reality, they don’t like this rule either…it’s made them write tickets/warnings they normally wouldn’t have had to write. Eventually we wall will be up on checking and remembering what date ours expires. I’m gonna re-do all of mine on my birthday so I remember every year.

Got by with a warning and caught fish! Not a bad day. You just made me recheck mine. Only 18 days left.

“Why Bruce?”

I typically detest things that auto renew and auto charge my CC, but man I’d love it if my hunting and fishing license did.

Dang I got a month to go. Glad you reminded me to check. Wish they would go back to 7-1-xx for everything. I always remembered almost July go to Walley World and renew my permits.

I thanked those 2 officers over and over for giving me a break. I pride myself on being a good sportsman and not breaking the rules. Just a dumb mistake, no excuses. Went to Wally World at lunch and got my Saltwater renewed. Once again, check yo stuff! We are used to the June 30th rule, just make sure you check. I got way lucky. THANKS AGAIN DNR OFFICERS CRUISING THE COOPER SUNDAY!

Will the DNR guys accept a digital copy of your license saved on a phone? I’m notorious for leaving mine on the boat when I’m not on it or vice versa. I don’t carry a wallet so the actual paper copy gets away from me sometimes.

Yes they will accept a digital copy. I would just take a screen shot of it then when you get checked you can just pull it from your pics.

I work with a lot of DNR guys. Most of them are good, decent folks and if talked to respectfully, they will respond in kind. Trust me, you have no idea how many times they get treated like crap for doing their job and enforcing laws they had nothing to do with passing. He/she did exactly what a good officer does. He saw no willful violation and a man trying to spend some quality time with his child and gave you a warning. My kind of officer!

A photo of your license is a great idea. Also, you should set a reminder in your calendar (phone, pc, etc) a week or so before your license expires to remind you to renew. I do the 3 year one but now I have to remember 3 years after I get it.

Most (if not all) of them are just like the rest of us when the green jeans aren’t on…

Thanks, guys.
And I agree, treat them with respect. Every one I’ve talked to through the years have been great and, honestly, care about our resources the same way most of us do.

I just checked my license before I went out last weekend, got on 8/3/16. Think I’ll renew early just to be safe. I too hit Bushy Sunday at about 1pm via kayak. Haven’t been out in a over a month, had nothing but issues with both my spinner and caster reels. On top of the heat and frustration I ditched early empty handed. One of those frustrating days where I go “why do I even bother…”

After cooling off, I’m hitting Bushy this weekend on incoming and try to reverse my fortunes.

Keep on castin’

Thanks all, I made a mistake no exscuses. That’s what I told the officers. Yes Sir, no Sir and respect for the law are always a page in my playbook. I am an 8 year Army veteran and because of that I love and appreciate what law enforcement does for us. Even if I would have received a ticket I was wrong. I would still feel the same way. Those men and women are there to protect us and our fisheries/ hunting lands and serve our great sportsmans paradise called South Carolina! I have miles of water, and 391,000 acres of public hunting land in the Francis Marion that I absolutely live for. No way would I disrespect a DNR officer or any officer of the law. Kindness and truth goes a long way if you find yourself in a situation with Law Enforcement.
