Bushy Park

Fished the high tide today and caught my first red of the year. It was pretty small, but at least I caught something. I decided to go last minute so I was fishing strictly with artificials. This guy was caught on the red fish magic in electric chicken.

Also for the guys who fish there more often, how do you typically fish the falling tide one the creeks have pretty much drained out? I usually target the creek areas, but it seems extremely shallow there about halfway though the tide.

i see you still have the yak.

“Anywhere in the surf”

Yeah it been a perfect starter yak, but I don’t get to use it much. I am gonna take sometime off this summer and hope to be in it everyday.

i built a 8ft flats skiff that i can paddle or use trolling motor.not in water yet though.you know where to find me.

“Anywhere in the surf”

Only the first 2 creeks on right “drys-up”. Try the next 2, but be aware of big gators. They been giving me the creeps lately. Might pack a 40cal, to help my false sense of security.
good job on the first red of year. Try the entire left bank for flounder…mid-out-going tide.

Where is Bushy Park?

And are there any verified reports of gators attacking someone in a kayak?

fishfofun-listen to cutmullet,he lives out there.

if you want to hit the stono one day fish…im there

“Anywhere in the surf”

Thanks CutMullet. I think I talked to you last year some time at Bushy Park.

I was actually checking out the creek right at the bend (4th maybe) and saw a gator sunning on the bank. As I approached he entered the water and I decided to turn around and exit.

Hopefully I can get into some of the monsters that I see you catching.

Ok, stop wigging me with gator talk <grin> Ive seen the discovery channel special where the croc comes out of the water, snags the buffulo on the bank by the head, and drags it back in. Can just see that happening with a 7ft gator and me in kayak.

I’m not aware of any reported gator attacks with injuries. I have been hissed at and rushed before when I got too close to a nesting female. Scared the willies out of me. I’ve read plenty of reports from Florida about yaks being bumped by gators…Fl DNR does not list any “attack on kayak” reports that I’ve been able to find.

With that said, I’ll continue to give gators a wide berth. I went up 3rd creek on rt and saw one sunning on a bank under the big oak tree a couple of weeks ago. It was 6 or 7 feet… I decided to fish a different area.

What would be worse? Falling into the water with
A) a big gator
B) a big shark
C) a school of chopper blues

So much water, So little time

Those three options bring the question to is the 40 cal you’re carrying for the critters or to put you out of your misery.

Willy.
I am gonna try to hit the Stono next week sometime. I like it out there but I hate going on weekends with all the boat traffic. After finals I will have some afternoon time available and hopefully can make it out there.

6 footers don’t bother me. The 12+ feet gators don’t scare… they tend to hang around and there are a few up those creeks.

I will cast my vote for the blue fish!! Gators and sharks don’t bother me to much, but a school of blues in the surf scare the bejesus out of me!

Go Buckeyes!!! No, Seriously, GO!!!

WOw i always heard of Bushy Park but did not realize there was so much water so close to me. I live in Atlantic Palms, North chuck. I am def. going to check this out. Any easy spots to fish from shore? Ill have to check it out in the kayak when I get one.

They have a dock on the salt side but I have never heard of anyone catching anything from it… the yak is the way to fish BP… the gators are plentiful and some are pretty big but as long as you give them thier space you should be alright… Althougfh Cutmullet does have a good idea with the 40 though  Anytime I see agator bigger than my kayak I get nervous but since I have a 16footer now I am hoping I am not nervous anymore

Paddle faster boys… I hear banjo music!

That or the next one that bigger than your kayak is the last one you see
