my sons and i went out today managed 1 on small 1/8 oz. spinner bait 2 on black worm and 3 on frog. these stinking mudfish are going to make me broke $$!!lost 2 brand new booyaa spinners to these agraviting fish today and last week i lost one. i fish all my rods with mono, will braid hold up better with the mudfish? if so what size i am tired of losing $6.00 plugs!! oh and all bass were around 2 - 3 pounds and released to fight again.
They are extremely aggravating!!
I use to catch them all the time. I have never been broken off though. I always used either 12 or 15# Berkley Big Game (green). I’ve even caught a 40# plus blue catfish on a spinner bait at Bushy using the 12# BBG line. Good line IMHO…

They will break you of no matter what kind of line you have. I throw 65 lb Power Pro and they break that.
I use 12-15lb big game as well, never been broken off either. Good line. Those ■■■■ mudfish will destroy just about anything:angry:

Well, I guess I was doing something wrong then! I have caught some monster mudfish, as far as mudfish go, and have not broke yet. I have had many a spinnerbait mangled though!!

I have caught some big ones also, But still I get broke off 2-3 times per day…

I like throwing the Terminator titanium spinnerbaits, and the mudfish will even twist and break the arms on those baits. I will agree with Sully on the line choice. I use 15# Berkley big game and hardly ever get broken off.
Have had them deform the titanium spinners too and break line. They do however find it hard to break anything with a muzzy bowfishing arrow through their thick skulls.
