Busy Park 4/20 PM

I got on the water around 6PM and after throwing my cast net on the ramps I managed to snag up a few tiny flounder and some menhaden looking fish, the flounder I put back in the water ASAP and the others went into the yak with me… I paddled out to the 3rd creek on the right and anchored myself outside the mouth of it and started casting a rapala top water and had one of the baitfish under a cork. I wound up catching 4 blue crabs, and hooked up on something big that broke me off as it headed out to deeper water, I also had an osprey drop into the water about 20ft away from me, and of course behind me so it scared the crap outa me, he lifted off with a nice size mullet and flew off. I saw several large reds within 6 feet of the yak, they took off pretty quick when I threw a bait at them and the water was boiling all around me and there were lots of smaller fish jumping, mullet I guess. I had a great time and after my heartbeat got back to a normal rythm after the osprey, I spent a while just paddling around and exploring. I am digging the yak… I am going to try and get out there again tomorrow again and get across the river to the creeks over by yellow house and see what I can scare up.

I don’t lie about the fish I catch… I just remember them bigger…

Sounds like a good evening. When I first started fishing that area I was skunked for a whole year. After that first fish I haven’t been skunked there since. You might try a mud minnow on a circle hook with no weight just let him swim.

I tried that with the menhaden thingy I caught. The crabs had a field day with him  As long as I am able to get out there and fish I’m happy, catching fish is a bonus

Did you try without the cork? When I free swim bait with nothing but the hook it usualy takes care of the crab issue. But your right most of the fun is just being out there.
