What do y’all think the most versatile jig weight is? Just bought some that are 7 oz and 6 in offline for 35 bucks. Thinking I should have gone a little lighter.
That’s a tough question, probably as hard as asking what the most versatile lead weight size is for bottom fishing. You’re a good fisherman, so I suppose you’re not looking for the textbook response of needing several different sizes depending on all the specific factors like water depth, current, wind, species, etc. That aside, if I could only bring one size jig with me on a random grouper trip, it would be the 200 gram (7 oz) because that is the size we use most in deeper water and although not ideal, it will work in shallower waters too. The 150 gram size is a close 2nd place and is what we use when fishing in the depths we dive. This is just my opinion. You better go ahead and just order another $35 bucks worth of the 150 gram size and bring them along too!

That is the answer I needed Eric! Wouldn’t have even gotten into jigging if it wasn’t for you and now I am hooked. I am going to start looking for some 150 gram size, probably owe you a butterfly jig or two.
150 / 200 for less than 200’ and 300 / 400 for 250’ to 400’ fished on 70 # Samurai braid with a 150# 10’ leader.
