what is everyone’s opinions on shotguns. I am looking to buy a new 12 ga. auto soon for turkeys and ducks. thanks
I’m a fan of Benelli (M2). Do you want something that shoots 3 1/2” or just up tp 3”? Wood or synthetic? Gas or inertia?
God bless the “ignore” function.
Benelli is the only way to go in my opinion.

Benelli SBE2, there are still some new ones to be had at a discount at a few stores (PSA had them not long ago). The SBE3 is out and its a (**() fine firearm as well although it is pricey. I’ve got an Indian creek turkey choke and it’ll kill turkeys farther than you should shoot them, great pattern.
SBE or Beretta Extrema.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Stoger M3000, owned and made my Benelli and half the price. Little heavier of a gun but you cant beat the inertia driven systems. The M3500 will cycle 3 1/2 too

The Stoeger is a great price point shotgun. Benelli does own the Stoeger name (Beretta owns everything under the Benelli umbrella including Benelli) but most of the Stoeger shotguns are made in Turkey (not by Benelli).

Oh dear God in Heaven, a Stoeger isn’t even in the same league, same quality, same components, same fit, finish or anything as a Benelli. Beretta owns Benelli, Sako, Tikka, Uberti, Franchi, Stoeger and others. That’s the only relationship a Stoeger has to a Benelli or anything else built with quality. The Stoeger shares more in common with a boat anchor with the exception that the boat anchor does it’s job well.

Thanks guys…
bangstick, I don’t have to have 3.5…
I was already leaning toward the Extrema or SBE2… Also held the M2. It was nice.
" It is what it is".
The only reason I use the M2 is because I don’t shoot 3.5" for anything. If I did shoot 3.5", I’d shoot the SBE2 (or SBE3 if you want the “latest and greatest”)
I grew up in the north so inertia guns were the ticket because they didn’t freeze up like gas guns would. That said, I don’t think that’s a valid reason down here in the south because it rarely gets cold enough to “freeze up” your gun. The difference in felt recoil used to be big and in favor of the gas guns but now most inertia guns have a built-in recoil reduction system. The difference in felt recoil between gas gun and inertia guns is negligible, at best, now.

I have one of the old M1 super 90’s and am the 3rd owner and I have had if for over 10 years now. I wouldn’t buy anything else. I looked into the extrema a few years back but just liked my M1 so much that I talked myself out of it.

Don’t overlook the Browning Maxus…great gun at a great price point.

I’ve got an old HK made SBE, I’ll take it over any of them. I had an Extrema but sold it, I like the SBE more, just feels better to me. However the Extrema was a solid, badass gun that ate everything I put in it. Anyway, if I’m shooting an auto, it’ll be the SBE or one of my old humpback A5’s. Not sure they’ve yet to make a hunting auto that is as good as an original A5.

I got recommendations for the Beretta Out lander, poor excuse for a shotgun. The cycling of shells is convoluted, no way to open the breech without completely unloading. The plug system is just a poor design. For the money I would rather have a 40 year old browning A5 that is worn out and duct taped together.
SBE 3 is sweet… $1799…

I agree with the Benneli sbe if you have the money for it. You won’t regret it. I like my Remington 1187.
Had a stoeger classic 3000, hated it. Jammed every other shot and would not cycle low brass. took it to a fellow in Williams and he did a few things which helped it with heavy loads but still jammed with low brass. I polished everything with lapping compound and might have helped some… Gave it to my son in law and he seems to be happy with it using Buck shot only.
I’d look into a 30" barrel if you are bird hunting, that’s the only thing I did like about the stoeger. It held an awesome pattern.
Benelli super sport?

The SS is more of a “clays course” shotgun. That’s not to say it won’t kill winged critters but Benelli built it with sporting clays in mind.
You’re going to have a hard time finding a 30" field shotgun. With today’s different loads and various choke tube configurations, you don’t need the extra barrel length to “reach out and touch” high birds anymore. In field guns, 26" and 28" are going to be your most common.
