Buying first boat - sea test

Looking at buying a 2005 20 v pathfinder. All the pics show a boat that looks like it is new. Engine is a 2005 4 stroke Yamaha that also looks very clean, 600 hrs.
Is there anything I should be paying close attention too when I check the boat out?

Thanks a lot

Pay double

Give the boat a hard look over twice… but not in the same day. Compression test the motor and pay close attention to the oil after you sea trial.

Thanks Island Boy.

If it cost more than $20,000, hire a Marine Surveyor to look at it. It will only cost a couple hundred and could save you thousands. He will also be more objective than you will as an excited buyer.

Generally speaking, Pathfinder makes a very good boat and I wouldn’t expect many serious problems, but…it’s old enough to have some and you don’t know how it’s been treated over the last 10 years. Get a second opinion:wink:

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING

Just a quick update. Had engine checked, owner was surprised to learn that another authorized yamaha dealer had installed a non yamaha water pump. that was replaced, some seals were replaced and engine got a clean bill of health. did a sea test friday and now have the boat in my drive. thanks for all the help.
cheers

Congrats

Did you have a hull survey?

Cpt Larry, I did not have a full hull survey. I had Maverick check the hull # and it came back clean (with the exception of some console work just after the initial delivery). The dealer who checked the engine also did some other basuc checks, including the electronics and the hull. Everything was good with the exception of the engine points I mentioned that were taken care of. Thanjks
