Cabelas Brand Fluroocarbon Leader

Cabelas states on the package that is is made by Seaguar. Anybody tried this leader out?

He must Increase, but I must decrease. John 3:30

Never tried it, but I see it is about 6 bucks for 25 yards.

You can find 200 yards of Seaguar Red Label flouro for $12 or so.

Are there any real differences between flouro “leader” and “line”? I’ve always just used flouro line for leaders thinking it was just marketing, but never really looked into it.

Diameter was the biggest difference I think… We had a discussion about it here a little while back…that and the leader is typically a little more stiff and a little more $$ as well

I thought the same until last summer. I bought the Seaguar Red Label thinking I would save some money. I found that the line would break on hook sets. I also found that I had more knot slippage/failures than I ever had in my life. I will never buy the big spool again. I will stick to the fluorocarbon designed for leaders. That’s my 2 cents anyway.

Regardless of the material (mono or flouro), leader is generally harder than line and therefore is more abrasion resistant, which is very important when you’re picking a leader. Under tension, softer mono or flouro line is not very abrasion resistant at all, especially when stretched under pressure. Stick with leader for leader and line for line. Not all leader materials are created equal either - I look for very hard leader due to the abrasion from teeth, mouths, gill plates, tails, etc., not to mention the toll that structure like oysters, pilings, rocks, marsh grass, etc. take on your leader. Line will work, but leader is better.
