Looking at 8wt combos. Anyone cast this rod? Says “LST (Line Speed Taper) rods are lightweight and strong, with a versatile fast action”. Looking for something that can handle some light wind but also is fairly easy to cast.
Looking to buy from Cabelas due to some gift cert money but of course they carry TFO, Sage, Reddington too.

Not really too big of a fan of Cabelas. I prefer a company that focuses strictly on fly fishing, not a giant seller of all kinds of outdoor stuff. I have a Cabela’s Letort trout rod and its a giant piece of donkey poop. I want to give it away but feel bad for whoever I give it to. That being said I haven’t cast any of their other gear and some of it could be quality stuff. If I were you I’d go for a more well known name brand. Just my .02

TFO rods have the best customer service there is. I have not dealt with cabelas, but I know that Bass Pro is a pain to return rods (inshore spinning) to.
You are going to break your fly rod if you use it. $25 and 7 days later it will be replaced no questions asked.
For the money, you can not beat the quality and service that they offer.
Chris.
I would check out Sage or St. Croix. TFO’s are okay, but if you really get into fly fishing and enjoy it, it won’t take much to outgrow a TFO. Trust me on this one - I currently have a TFO Signature Series 8wt that I use, but I would be lying to you if I told you that I’m completely happy with it. It got me into fly fishing and it does the job, but I really wish I had just bit the bullet and gotten a better rod from the start.
Yes, if you can afford a sage, go for it.
Look at tradenstuff.com. He has great deals.
You can get a sage launch for $150.
Sage is the ****.

My buddy has a reddington 8wt, they are made by sage so it’s good but I fish March brown Ltd. rods and when I broke my 8wt in Iraq I had a new on 8 days later in my hand… AWESOME rods and they are travel size. Never had a 7 peice rod and was skeptical but after I threw it it felt like I had a 2 peice in my hands… Awesome rods and better customer service than anyone I have ever dealt wiht… when they say WORLD WIDE uncoinditional gaurentee they mean it…

One of my first rods a long time ago was a Cabela’s 6 wt and I HATE it!
If it swims throw a fly at it!
