I’ve got an older 17’ CC Seapro, and the original cable steering is still on the boat. It’s getting to the point where the helm is tough to turn, and grease is getting all over the back of the boat. I don’t want to put hydraulic steering on this boat, can anyone recommend a good steering system to purchase and install. Thanks.
what brand is the current steering system? it’s easiest to go back with whatever brand is currently installed. it is most likely either a seastar or teleflex system. if you end up replacing the steering box as well, i suggest getting a NFB(No Feed Back) steering box, if you dont have one already. if you look on the back of the steering box, there should be a manufacture name and model number on it. post that on here and we’ll be able to give you a better idea on what you may need.

I think teleflex makes the kit you need. Personally i would go with the hydraulic baystar setup. I was in your same position with a 18’ angler and was very happy I spend the extra 400 bucks on the hydraulic system.
i put an NFB on every boat i have now. i do alot of fishing by myself, and alot of trolling. it becomes a real PITA when youre trying to put out a spread or fight a fish by yourself while keeping the boat moving and the steering wheel keeps turning.

definitely go with a no feed back (NFB) system.
most of those boats require removing the motor from the transom in order to install the new cable.
we install almost exclusively Teleflex systems.
