Cabo Fishing Report – Marlin and Sailfish Released Near Whale’s Head

September 29, 2026 – 1 Marlin and 1 Sailfish Released – Cabo Fishing Report

A five-hour run aboard the 43’ Riviera Blue Sky with Blue Sky Cabo Fishing Charter and Tours produced a strong double-billfish morning on September 29, 2026. Team Australia finished the charter with one marlin released and one sailfish released while fishing approximately two miles off Whale’s Head near Cabo San Lucas.

With four guests aboard, including two adults and two children, the trip delivered two different billfish species during a relatively short five-hour charter.

Cabo Fishing Report From the 43’ Riviera Charter

Date: September 29, 2026 | Duration: 5 hours | Guests: 4
Boat: 43’ Riviera Blue Sky | Captain: Luis | Area: Whale’s Head
Distance Offshore: ~2 miles | Water: ~87.8°F | Game Fish: 2
Marlin: 1 released | Sailfish: 1 released | Billfish Releases: 2
Species: 2 | Billfish Release Rate: 100%

The most impressive statistic from the morning was the combination of two separate billfish species in only five hours.

The crew concentrated its fishing effort near Whale’s Head rather than making a lengthy offshore run. At roughly two miles from the area, the warm Pacific water produced exactly the kind of billfish opportunity Cabo anglers hope to encounter.

The marlin provided one of the major fights of the morning. After being worked to the boat, the fish was successfully released.

The sailfish added a second style of billfish action. Sailfish are known for speed, aerial displays and their distinctive dorsal fin. This fish was also brought alongside and released, completing a 100% release day for the charter’s billfish catch .

Cabo Yacht Fishing Produces a Double-Billfish Morning

Statistically, Team Australia recorded two billfish during five charter hours , averaging one billfish encounter for every 2.5 hours of the trip.

Even more notable was the species diversity. Rather than catching two fish of the same species, the family experienced both a marlin and a sailfish during the same morning.

The fishing grounds being approximately two miles off Whale’s Head also meant less time was required for long-range travel. That matters on a five-hour charter, where maximizing actual fishing time can make a substantial difference.

Late September’s warm water around Cabo San Lucas can support an impressive variety of offshore predators. On this morning, however, billfish clearly dominated the scorecard.

Team Australia returned after five hours with one marlin released, one sailfish released, two billfish species and a perfect 100% release rate aboard the 43’ Riviera Blue Sky.
