Cajun Anchor Storage

Just bought a new to me Key West 1720…I have a cajun anchor that I made out of a electrical ground rod and it’s about 6’ long. Since the Key West doesn’t have any gunnel rod storage, I’m at a loss on how to store the dern thing without it rolling around in the bottom of the boat all the time. Was wondering if anyone had solved this problem before I go to experimenting…:question:

Some people were putting them inside the hole in a pool noodle. I still don’t like the idea of it rolling around in the floor but at least this way it’s not beating anything up.

Never would have thought of that one…thx

Will those nav pole light clips made for 3/4 in. poles hold your Cajun rig? That’s what they ship with the Stickit anchors. I’m debating putting them on the gunnels of my flats boat.

I have tried the “nav light” clips. They do not work, the Cajun anchor is too heavy. I have a 36" and it kept falling out.

Lowe’s sell’s pipe insulation in gray or black in various lengths that would fit perfectly around it. Pull the tapes and glue the edges together, and the rod will come out the end when you are ready to use it.

Here’s mine…vertical beside the console. I don’t have a t-top, so I stuck a piece of pvc in the 3-rod holder and then I stick the cajun anchor in the pvc pipe. I’ve got a cap on the end of the pvc to keep the tip of the cajun from damaging the deck. There’s a hole in drilled in the pvc cap.

Sucks getting it out with the Bimini up though.:face_with_head_bandage:

Thanks for all the input…seems that there really isn’t a good solution because I have a bimini top also… Think I’m gonna give the vertical pvc a try and temporarily tie wrap it to the grab rail to see how it works out…again thanks…

I put a rubber table leg cover on the spiked end of mine and lay it on the bottom of the boat. Pipe insulation or pool noodle sounds good though.

I velcro my stick it to the gunnel rail. It doesn’t budge no matter what and you dont even know its there. Some people dont ever see it until i point it out. I have a float on the handle and I tie the float off on a cleat for extra security. Ill post a pic tomorrow and maybe,if you have gunnel rails, my method will work for you.

I’ll be interested in seeing the pics of the velcro approach

Bill, sounds like jimmyadams is talking about a stick it pin, which is going to be a lot lighter than your ground rod. How deep are you wanting to be able to anchor in? Me and Rod bought a couple of 12’ stick - it pins from Haddrells last year on love them. Mine is down in Chas but if you thing that may work for you, give Rod a call and try it out.

Thanks Striperskiff, actually I’ve been using a cajun anchor for 5-6 years now on my Pathfinder by just laying the cajun across the Driftmaster rod holders and bungee cords to hold in place…works fine but the Keywest is smaller and doesn’t have rod holders along the gunnel to do that. Just looking for other options…

yes mine is a stick it. I am not sure if this will work for you or not since the cajun anchor is heavier, shorter and not as flexible?. I didn’t think it would work for me but it turned out to be awesome. Before i did it this way, i put a hole in a tennis ball and stuck it on the pointed end. Then i put a small section of noodle on the shaft about a foot or two below the handle and rested it on the casting deck. then i tied the float off on a cleat. I just didnt want the clips mounted on my boat. Anyway, here are pics and maybe it will work. Good luck man.

The black fishing rod holder mount may or may not help by putting a slight bend in the pole.(below)

I keep an 8’ stick it in my 17’ whaler and stick it thru the clevis on my rear danforth, it keeps it in place and quiet!
