First Responder

Unfortunatly, Area ambulances are very busy, so the fire department responds for several reasons. One to reduce the time from the time the call was received by a dispatcher until the time someone is there to render help, even if they can’t completely fix the problem. There are lots of things Fire Departments can do for the truly sick patient. The other reason… to boost their response numbers. How many structure fires/auto extrications have you heard of this year… not to say they don’t happen, but they don’t happen daily… It costs millions of dollars to purchase the equipment needed to fight those fires, and it’s hard for them to get the money needed without being able to relate it to a call volume. Also, some local departments also have paramedics on their engine that can do everything, except transport the patient, that a paramedic on an ambulance can do.
