I’m thinking about building a 3wt flyrod and have been looking at Rainshadow blanks. Does anyone have experience with that brand? I’ve read some great reviews of them online, but would appreciate any first hand knowledge.
Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.
Jerms, no first hand as far as wrapping or using, but have visited Batson’s booth at the Rod Expo. Top notch stuff. Straight, well finished blanks and high quality reel seats and guides. I don’t think that you’ll go wrong with a rainshadow.

I have a nine foot 2 pc 4wt rainshadow that I have put a handle on but never got any further, I’ll sell cheap ($40) if you’re interested. A seven and a half foot three weight would be good for small trout streams. I have a nine weight rainshadow blank with handle and fighting butt but no guides I’ll let go cheap as well. I made a six weight I used but broke the tip on it. They are a medium fast action rod. Good for light tippets and less than rugged conditions (wind, long distances, casting big flies). A fair priced intermediate rod but everyone has a different oppinion of what suits them. I have six weight and nine weight Pac Bay blanks as well with no handles or guides I’ll sell cheap. I prefer a faster action for salt, big flies and open spaces and a medium fast action for small streams and lakes.
Haven’t built any fly rods but I have built and use several conventional rods on Rainshadow blanks. Great bang for the buck and Batson’s a great company to deal with when ordering.
