Ok so obviously you turn on Sportsman Channel and youll see mark drury grunt or rattle in a pet 28 point from 1000 yards to 15. Well I aint mark and I dont have $15000 to put down on a guided kansas hunt. However I have really gotten in the groove on how to call turkeys here in the SC swamps and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to see deer that you wouldnt have seen by attracting them with sounds?
Never had much luck with a grunt or rattle. Sit still, play the wind and be patient, if you’re seeing does this time of year sooner or later the bucks are going to show up.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

ive had a couple come into the grunt call and the primos can gets some attention during the rut, however i dont call hard and heavy while hunting either. still workin on the rattle though.
I grunted and rattled like crazy other day. I don’t know if it had any affect, but an 8 pointer came out then a doe, then another doe that I shot and there may have been a buck behind that doe.
Last year I rattled in a big one. I have grunted while looking at deer eating my corn and the grunts do not spook them. So it seems to me there is no downside as it draws some in and does not scare others.
I save it until 1 hr after sunrise and until 1 hr before dark.
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
kinda what I have thought. but have heard whispers that some people swear by it.
Grunting and calling to deer does work. It all depends on the animal you are pursuing. I have grunted and had buck almost run me over, and have had others be none responsive. With regards to rattling, is a total different story. If the property has a good buck to doe ratio with a higher population of older aged bucks then rattling really works. I have had 1-1/2 - 2 year old buck run in on a rattling sequence, but are not there to fight they seem like they are checking out all the commotion. I do agree with Ohio the primos can really works. Try blowing into the can real soft and choppy and they will go nuts.
I’ll have to try that! I’m in a good property for it! Very thick. What about in regards to wind direction and how that affects your set up?
Older class bucks always seem to come from down wind. Last year I rattled for about a minute or so, and saw a good buck at about 250 yds and he disappeared. Within 5 minutes he was 60yds behind me down wind. He got my wind and that was that.
Yea Im wondering if I put my downwind like a river or a open field if I would have better success with the calling. but that is kinda the opposite of the wind scheme if stand hunting. I dont know its like all those TV gimicks ya wanna try it but cant decide if its worth it
