YOU have any Mexicano familia?
I started bottom fishing the 60 in my 17 key west years ago . Got a 20 footer and pushed a Lil further every trip till we made it out to the ledge . You will be amazed at all the really good fishing around the 60 give it a try even if you scan the bottom for some new numbers its not a waste of time I was doing that when I caught my first grouper off of my own boat felt great knowing I found grouper 4 miles from the 60 . Good job on the fish those aj’s will really work the arms wait till you hook one in 160 feet fun
grab the gaff and another cold beer
There are certain times of the year that the 60 will produce decent fish, once the water cools the grouper move in a little closer and they can be found there. I have caught some gags that were around the 18-20 lb range, I also once got a nice red snapper there as well, probably 15 lbs. I caught a cobia (25 lbs) trolling a deep diving plug there one time also. When I first moved here I was fishing the artificial reefs but soon learned that you have to get out and find spots that everyone in the world doesn’t know about. It helps that I dive so I was able to drop down and investigate new spots to see if they were worth the time or not. Don’t let the people on here bother you, sometimes half the fun is busting someone’s b*llz to see how they will react.
Hey man dont sweat it. Go buy a maps unique map for the area and start loading up numbers on your machine. For exploring new sites i tie up a heavy chicken rig with flouro with a heavy weight 12-16oz that will drop fast. i will usually put out one live bait and one with squid, shrimp etc that way i have a shot at nearly whatever is holding there. Make sure your reel is stout and can take the heat from a 25 lb gag sitting on his front porch lock it down and see whats down there.
Not much happening on the nearshore wrecks once the water gets into the 80’s as almost all of your prime fish push to live bottom or out deep to get away from all the sharks and cuda.
Im really liking this information people are giving on here. I am in the same category of no numbers in my GPS that aren’t found on the DNR website… Guess I need to take some time next time its flat and scan some distance for those live bottom areas. But I have caught a grouper in 45 ft of water in the summer… even though it was 12 inches ![]()

Well if the weather is nice for this 3 day weekend coming up, I’m loading up and heading out to 100’. Gonna have plenty of live bait, I’ve got tons of trolling rigs, and we’re gonna enjoy the water. My dad wants to go out Monday with us so it will be his first time out in awhile. Hope to see more boats out than last weekend

No one is putting you down for what you are catching.
Some are arguably, putting you down for what you are keeping and/or eating.
Thick skin is a two way street, ricky…
You know what ricky?
I am going to take your advice and find something better to do and not look at your posts any longer.
I feel better already and I know from your post above that you sincerely appreciate it as well.
Thank you.
You are welcome as well.
The fish are in 100-150 biting well…You should have a good trip, now that the mosoons are over. We murdered big bee liners a lot shallower than I would have thought s few weeks back.

Best Wife’s Recipe to cook that AmberJack Ricky. Been in the wife’s family for years. First you have to heat up several hot bricks. Dig a deep hole like your gonna roast a pig. Put the hot bricks in the bottom of the hole. Line up neatly and evenly. Lay your amber jack on top of the bricks. Cover with dirt . This technique is vital. Lastly never go back to dig it up. Keep on Fishing Ricky!!!
