I’m planning a camping trip to Capers this fall and thought I might throw out a few questions for those that may have done it before. First, I already have permits from DNR and plan to camp on the south end of the island. Do most just pull your boat up to the beach on the inlet side (not facing the ocean), unload gear, then anchor boat just off the beach in the same area? I plan to use double anchors. Anything else to consider with anchoring overnight? Is it worth trying to fish the interior ponds/tidal areas, or should I stick with the surf? How bad are the bugs in October? Is there sufficient wood for building a fire, or should you bring your own? Thanks for any help.
I’m not sure your allowed to fish the freshwater ponds on Capers. Better check with dnr. Also, be careful around those ponds. They are absolutely loaded with big gators. Check the tides. Double anchor should be fine. Bugs can still be a problem in October. We always bring our wood but we always camp on the north end. Good Camping!!

Thanks, megabite. Do you find the north end is better than the south for any particular reason? Better area for camping or maybe better for anchoring boat?
I’ve always camped at the north end just because it’s closer to some of my fishing spots. Also, my choice between bugs / wind (sand) is wind. Bugs can get really nasty on Capers, even in October. This time of year the wind is typically out of the north so it keeps the bugs down.
