I’ve been wanting to take the boy camping by boat. Which islands north of the IOP are open to the public for camping? Thks.

Capers Island. Camping by Permit. Pay attention on how you anchor over nite. https://www.dnr.sc.gov/mlands/regulations?p_id=666
Narcosis
X2 on Capers. We go every year and have a blast
I agree on Capers as well - just pay good attention like Narcosis said to how you anchor overnight - and where you place your tent! The tide probably dries and wets 30-40 yds of shoreline in some spots if not more.
Camped on Capers one time back in 2004. We built the bird viewing blind on the impoundment as my son’s Eagle Scout project. DNR rode us out on the Discovery vessel and it was really cool. We went the first part of April and it got fairly chilly overnight. I’d suggest going when it’s cold otherwise you’ll be eaten up by the bugs. I was there in June for an hour or so just before sunset and they were pretty thick. I don’t know any thing about anchoring a boat overnight there. For short visits I’ve just tied up to the dock. Narcosis is right, you must have a permit but they’re free and easy to get.
How long does the permit take to get (can you just go to Ft J office and pick one up?) and do you need a permit per boat? or just per group staying the night?
And what are regulations of fires? other than what is states online about not burning trash.
