With all the warm weather I know everyone is thinking about the upcoming spring. I was wondering if anybody had any good spots to kayak to and camp.
Hello Iatola,
One place where we camp (with an RV) is here: www.oakplantationcampground.com/
They have tent camping sights also and water and power is free. They have a small pool and onsight laundry facilities. We pay about $25 per day.
There are several good kayaking areas within easy driving distance. For quick access to water, you can be kayaking on the Stono river in 15 minutes from Limehouse Landing. This will give you plenty of wide water but the boat traffic may be heavy. I have heard that Cherry Point Boat Landing is a great place to yak. Check here to see the landing:

From this launch area, you can be kayaking in some quiet backwater areas (left) or you can paddle out to the open ocean (right).
enjoy, saltykayak

Another good area is down in Beafort at hunting island. We usually do about two or three trips a year out there. They have a 24 hr fishing pier, a good lagoon for kayaking and its right on the beach. Plus there are alot of good spots to fish in that area.
Check it out at: www.huntingisland.com

Be a little more specific and I can help you out. Where do you want to go? Which river or beach?
He asked “kayak to and camp”, right?
Capers, Otter, Morris, Botany Bay, Dump island… edisto river/ swamp, there are really hundreds of possible sites.
I can hook you up.
Thanks for the info:
Cutmullet I live up around the Edisto and have done some canoeing/camping on it and have been to many of the State Parks in the area. I go camping a few times a year with some guys I went to college with. I was looking more for something down around the Saltwater side. I’ve heard about capers and morris and some of the others I just am not real sure where a lot of them are. I actually don’t have a kayak right now, but I am planning on getting one this spring. We borrowed some kayaks and camped on a private Island in the Folly River one time, but that’s the extent of my knowledge.

maptech is awesome… check it out.
I’ve camped on Morris, catching lots of crabs for dinner; Otter is good for oyster dinners( but weather can get rough with no help within miles) Fishing/oysters is prob. best at north capers island (a few sites to choose from). For weather protection and only 2 miles from landing with beautiful oak trees … Dump island .
yep, I am thinking Springtime!
Hey cutmullet, when you’ve camped at capers were did ya putin and how long was the trip? I’ve camped at the south end many times but used a power boat so parking overnight wasn’t a problem. As far as the south end copahee sound seems to be the closes, but I don’t think that’s somewhere I would like to leave my truck overnight?

We have left a vehicle at Moores landing without getting it towed or ticketed (never heard of one getting towed). North end is prob. a 3hr paddle from Wild dunes, south end 2hrs? I agree about Copahee.
MudRoc, pick a date out and maybe we can get some local paddlers to join us?
Hey mullet, I’m unable to do an over night trip anytime soon, but a long day trip isn’t a problem.
