Pulled the boat out and want to put non eth gas in it.I have about 15 gal left in the boat. Can i add 65 gal of non eth??? Will this be a problem.
I don’t know if you can but I wish I could afford to pay for 65 gallons.
Stono. The Hull Truth, web site says it should be no problem!
From the boat mech. that spoke to us, mixing is not a great idea if it’s going to sit a while. If you burn it out, it may not have time to gum up and go all gooey.
http://www.iboats.com/basics/ethanol_fuels.html
“Since the 1970s, most non ethanol gasoline sold has a component called MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) added to the base gasoline to increase oxygen in the fuel, boosting octane. Though this additive is being phased out due to concerns over pollution of drinking water aquifers, it still is in use in many areas. Mixing ethanol with MTBE fuels creates a gel-like substance that gums up fuel and combustion systems.”

Tried to use the bulb to get the old gas out but it would not work??

Maybe put the bulb before the fuel filter?
Thinking about the gas/ethanol issue. Looks like the big issue is with MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether). The gas companies are blending ethanol and gas and selling it just fine and they are not causing terrible issues at gas stations and in autos. If your ethanol free gas is also MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether)free…maybe it’ll be ok.
I guess you’d have to know if your gas was MTBE free or not.

I must have been in 200 auto gas tanks in the last year due to a fuel pump recall we had. I have to say… around here its not uncommon to see a little water in the tank. Our cars have had no complications, and they all run ethanol constantly. We have tested some fuel samples up to 20% (just because we are bored). Im really not that worried about ethanol/non ethanol personally. Maybe I should be, but I open a lot of engines… and I havent found any of that gumming or sticking people talk about unless the fuel has been sitting a LONG time. I do use fuel additive and change the water seperator often… maybe I have just been lucky.
Many of our cars run yamaha engines that are basically just modified outboard engines… Im just sayin… no issues…

Stono, what kind of tank do you have? Ethanol gas will eat up a fiberglass tank.
I have a small 12v fuel transfer pump you can use if you want. I pump my tank out and use the gas in the car so it doesn’t sit around. I would not think mixing the 2 would hurt though. I use only premium in the car and often I will get gas that is ethanol free or 10%, depends on the station.

MattR.where did you get the 12 volt pump? I would like to have one.
Here is a link of a previous discussion. http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=85527&SearchTerms=Mixing,gas
Chris V. Told me to get as much ethanol gas out as I could before putting ethanol free in my tank. I made a permanent switch to ethanol free last year.

It is an electric lift pump I got from a Cummins ISX. I tapped the inlet and outlet ports to npt and put barbed fittings in it. Homemade jobber, but a walbro fuel pump from eBay will do the same.

MattR. thanks for the info! Stono.good luck!
Joe,
You can go to an auto parts store and buy an inexpensive electric fuel pump and put hose fittings on either side. Just keep the battery at a safe distance and be extremely careful about sparks.
I think MBTE was phased out of use years ago but I stand to be corrected. From what I have read nowadays adding an equal amount of non-ethanol gas to E10 just makes it E5.
