Hate to hear this for you.

Things will get better.

Dang Coot, I am really sorry to hear that. I’m up in Columbia so I can’t help you job wise but, I bet someone here on CF will have some ideas. Hang tough, you know the old saying when one door closes another one opens. I truly believe that. Take care.

So sorry? Will definately keep my eyes and ears open for you…and say a prayer too. Stay strong…things will turn around.

Sorry to hear. Got laid off a few years ago after decades of top notch work and beautiful annual reviews. Did just what you’re doing - started beating the bushes for anything. Keep the chin up. If you keep pushing, something will break your way like it did for me. Went from what I thought was a truly unfair termination to a better job. Just keep doing whatever will move you forward and good things will happen.

Try the larger sporting goods stores. They are almost always looking for experienced fishermen. The job is fun, hours and pay aren’t great starting out, but you get to share your knowledge with others and make a lot of contacts. Most promote from inside their workforce. That’s what kept me going until something better came along. Shake the bushes. Take anything you can for now, it’s much better than sitting around steaming mad!!
Also, try the local utilities companies. Even if they’re not hiring now, fill out applications. Good equipment operators/drivers are always in demand with them.
Things worked out for me, and thank goodness for the sporting goods store, kept my head above water for a couple of years. Good luck.

Thanks everyone,I know somewhere there is a brighter side to the dark cloud and will find it somehow. Palmer I just went through this 2 years ago after 15 years with another company. Spoonmaster, I’m not mad but confussed. Mabe it’s time for a change either in the type of work I do or time for some soul searching and a change in the way I am.

No matter how bad things seem, yes they can always get worse! Never think that!

That is really the answer, consider this the opportunity to do what you’ve always wanted to do. Look inside yourself. Don’t be a victim. If you can’t find a job, start a business. Capitalize on your hobbies, interests and skills. There is something you can do or provide and do it better than anyone else. Best of luck to you. I could give you a job sanding boats, but the work is nasty and the pay is poor:smiley:

Too many people spend their whole lives working for a weekly check and never realize their dreams or learn their potential. When you find the work you like, it’s not work anymore. Do what you love, learn to do it better than anyone else, treat people right and the money will come in time.

Just be aware that SAIC mostly deals with contracts, so if you want job security, might not be the right avenue to persue. When they lose a contract or it expires, to the curb you go…
