can the state thaw 2 bridges at once?

I thought they did a good job , better than atlanta on the don holt and ravenel bridges. That said
One question I have is- were they limited by equipment or manpower, in that they could only work one bridge at a time?
They said they worked on ravenel the 2nd day but wheneverI watched the traffic cameras there was no equipment on the bridge- I did see one dump truck, once and a plow.
otherwise I did not see anyone working - did any of you see how it was worked? maybe they needed people from greenville to come in, like the power company does

One of the issues with the bridge was the ice up above possibly falling on cars below. Also the DOT guy brought up a good point about the Ravenel bridge being a 600 Million dollar investment that is still under warranty and they had to be careful what they put down on it as to not void the warranty.

They also said the Don Holt is part of the interstate system. That means it takes priority over the Ravenel bridge, which is not part of an interstate.

They’ve got about ten years before it happens again. Maybe they’ll figure out what to do by then.

Either way they have to be very careful with applying any salt mixture as this can penetrate the concrete and attack the rebar. Scraping is another problem as damage to the deck can void a warranty.

Does the manufacturer pay for shipping if we have to send it back for repairs?

There is an article today that said they could use different “stuff” on the Don Holt b/c the drains go straight out to the water while the Ravenel uses a closed drainage system that would have been clogged using the same. FYI, Ravenel is shut down right now b/c of falling ice.

As little as it happens, I believe people can just be inconvenienced a little. We love to complain about everything.

I personally don’t want them spending millions of dollars on equipment that will sit around and rust and have to be repaired when they need to use it again.

My wife was driving on the bridge a few minutes ago. A chuck of ice hit her drivers side mirror and shattered the housing. She said she was lucky it did not hit the windshield

Ouch!

Here are a couple of pictures of the damage done by the ice today.

Thank God, my wife did have that happen.

Possibly a fine line here. I was once told by an official that when something strikes your vehicle if it hits the road first, then it is on you. Not sure how that would work if you are driving along and something falls from up above and hits your car. Any insurance people on here that might know the answer?

My feelings exactly.

Karma is 360 degrees

Some got to win, some got to lose…

Exactly! I live in Atlanta. Sure, “they” could have been more prepared. What I don’t agree with is so many people expecting “them” to ensure that they aren’t inconvenienced.

Atlanta’s biggest issue was pretending there wasn’t a problem until there was one. You can’t let an entire metro area like Atlanta all go home and get their kids at the same time during a storm and not expect all hell to break loose.

Never heard that and have had a couple of windshields replaced. Never even been asked what happen. It's SC state law that there is no deductible on "safety glass". A collision is a collision.
