So it’s probably not poisonous is what we’re coming up with?!

“Fish On”

I would say not poisonous with the round eyes. Probably king or corn snake.

Definitely non-venomous. My guess is a black racer given the size of the eye.

thanks yall!!..and i know the round eye thing but was unclear if it was the pupil or the entire eye that was “cat eye” like to determine venomous or not!

“Fish On”

I’ll be contrary to the crowd and say it’s a yellow rat snake. Definitely non-poisonous.

It is the pupil of the eye that determines venomous or not. However, the overall shape of the eye for vipers is more oval shaped (squished from the top/bottom)and they have a scale above the eye that look likes an eyebrow.

That would be a peeler snake.

I’ll take your 5 and raise you 10. Probably be able to see the lateral lines if it were a chicken snake. Sheesshhh … rat snake…come on larry.

I was going to guess the generic “black snake”, we have several “black snake” types around here, none are dangerous and all are good to have around.

I have a friend in Summerville that has the fattest rat snake I’ve ever seen in my life, living in his shed. It’s been hanging out there for years, he just leaves it alone.

honestly if I didn’t have chickens and other birds, I’d leave them alone. Unfortunately for them I do and dispatch as seen. Other than turtles they are the worst enemy to wood ducks. If they don’t have the easy target of baby chicks, birds and eggs they’ll do a number on mice and rats.

I just let them pass in peace, although they worry the dogs sometimes :sunglasses:

I guess it would be harder to kill them while they are He’in & she’in. Even you dog doesn’t seem to want to disturb them.
