Got this a couple weeks ago near Goodsoil Sk. Weber Outfitters did a great job at everything. Good people.
Nice! What did it dress out at:question:
Not sure. It was about 250lbs. It was an average shooter buck for the area.
Looks cold up there!
It was about +15. I watched this one the first day and shot it the second afternoon after watching another nice one all morning. The third day was going to be -20. I went with the guide and helped bait stands the rest of the week. They have 48,000 acres and it’s all nice.
good deal… Too cold for me.
" It is what it is".
Congrats on a nice buck! Looks beautiful up there.
wow nice thats def a heavy one! few weeks i should be sitting in 15 or so since im going home for Christmas this year! miss me some fat northern deer and hopefully i didnt turn into a big baby when i feel actual cold again…still 70+ in georgia.
It was a dry cold. Didn’t want to drink much beer. Our guide wants Copenhagen for a tip. $25 a can up there.
What was the total cost of the hunt, not counting travel???
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.
The hunt with room and board is $4300 plus tip. We gave $350 each tip. It was well worth it and they are not getting rich off of it. All of the Canadian people we met were the finest people you will ever meet. They had the American flag flying over the bunk house. They had a lady cook dinner every night and OMG it was a spread. I was not crazy about going at first (due to the temp) but it was awesome. I saw moose, lynx, wolfs and many other animals.
If you go to there web site (Weber outfitting) two of the pics of last years deer were who I went with. Marty and Shane. Good people.
looks familiar, was it Sontagg Outfitters before
Congrats on your deer. Nothing like those Canadian beasts.
Reading your report brought back great memories as I have spent many nights in that same cabin. I went back in 03’,04’,05’ and 09’. At that time it was Freddie Sonntag (Weber’s uncle I think) that was running this outfit and I agree it was top notch.
Some friends and I bow/muzzleloader hunted the early season (last week of October) the first three years and rifle hunted that last year in November. We all shot or passed deer in the 120’s-150’s each year.
Someone asked about the weight on your deer. Let me tell you these animals are huge when you compare them to SC deer. When Freddie Sonntag was running it, he weighed all of our deer (live weight) and the four that I shot weighed 264, 282, 290, and 297lbs. They scored 128, 147, 137, and 140 respectively. The best scoring deer our group shot was in 09’ and scored 165. It weighed 323lbs.
We actually killed the heaviest deer that Freddie ever had through his operation and it was a neat story as well.
I had videoed and passed a big bodied 8 point that I guessed was over 300lbs in 04’ as he had a distinctive but smaller rack. We named him Tank. The next year in 05’ I passed him again and his body was even bigger, but the rack was the same. No one believed me when I said I passed Tank and he was every bit of 325lb, but I showed my friends the video. Then on the last day with 5 minutes remaining one of my buddies sat this stand and shot him. He weighed 343lbs on certified scales. His neck was 39" around at the mid point. He only scored 123 but what body…
The food and hospitality were great and when we first started going cell phones would not work there so that was nice as well to get totally away from work for a week. When ever we shot our deer, Freddie would let us take the truck and go sit other stands to scout/video for the rest of our group who had not shot theirs yet.
Thanks for posting your hunt as it brought back great memories with good friends…Small world after all.
Ste
Freddie still owns the camp and he was around some. I think he had to sell his deer tags due to personal reasons but is doing bear and other hunts, they have a lot of bear. It sounds like its about time for you to go again. If I could go hunt anywhere with anybody in the world, it would be with them. They will let you do about anything the law will allow. One person got a permit to hunt chickens but he didn’t tag out. He was looking for 150+. They said that four years ago they had a real harsh winter and there are fewer large bucks than normal. Hope I get to go back next year.
That big 8pt wasn’t across the frozen river was it?Last time I was there in 2000, I let a huge one walk on last day.Huge body with 24"spread have regretted every since.I have deer hunted in Canada 17 times and he is still only regret I have had. There was a 135 class buck with him that he dwarfed.I just miss judged him.He was probably 150-160 at that time.
