The anti-siphon valve corroded and broke mid-thread in the fuel tank pickup tube. Tank is poly/plastic. The pickup tube is an aluminum block that screws into the tank. I’ve soaked it in Liquid Wrench for 2 days now and I can’t screw it out. I’ve put some serious force on it and it won’t budge. Afraid I’m going to break it.
If you have corroded aluminum threads in a poly/plastic tank, when/if you get it to come loose, you may have abraded the threads in the tank. I’d be VERY leery of reusing that tank. If the new pickup tube does not seal perfectly and completely, you’ll have a fuel leak in an enclosed space. Not safe.
Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but, I’d be conservative in my decision making. Vapors escaping through poorly sealing threads will be dangerous.
Thanks, Chris. I thought it was going to break, but it came out. Bought the parts from your shop this morning and should be back on the water tomorrow.
I took the boat for a test run. It ran great for the entire 30 minutes I was on the water. Ran it WOT for 5 minutes straight without a problem, EXCEPT when I looked back, the primer bulb was completely flat. I was concerned, yet it ran fine. I did NOT punch out the ball/spring in the AS valve.
I replaced the primer bulb with a Yamaha one and the bulb stays full at WOT. When the problem first started, I replaced the bulb with a cheep-o from Walmart. Obviously that was a mistake.
