Cape Isle Beach & Offshore

This Sunday, put two boats in at Buck Hall and went out to Cape.
One party fished the beach and caught a large ray and a decent sized Bonnethead.
My friend and I went out to the end of bar an the left side of the inlet, anchored and fished for a couple of hours.
We caught a small blue, lots of Whiting and Dogfish and a 4&1/2’ Bonnet on light tackle that gave a fine 35 min fight.
Had lots of cut-offs, must have been a bunch of Blues down deep; and something big grabbed a 30pd rig, ran and broke the line-probably a ray.
Target was Tarpon; but never saw one.
Cut mullet, live Whiting on Carolina rigs.

Sorry about your not seeing a tarpon.

Question?–Are there any sand fleas out there?

Thanks, soup, we were too:smiley:
We have had Tarpon “on” in the surf before; however, when they jumped and spun, the mono leader was either cut by their scales or just broke.
This time, we were set up with wire leader. The plan was to double team the fish from the beach and the inlet.
We were behind the bar in the inlet on a flood tide-well positioned.
Nice setup-no fish:stuck_out_tongue:
Ah, well, so it goes. We’ll keep trying.
