Cape Romain Lighthouse

Is the light house island accessible in Cape Romain? Wondering if you can pull your boat up on the hill and walk around on the island.
Thanks

Look out for snakes.

Yes you can. That is in the National Wildlife Refuge so it is open to the public. But no overnight camping or camp fires are allowed. Plus, sea turtle nesting season is close at hand. If you see any turtle tracks or nests, please leave them be.

Yes, we almost got stranded at low tide though. I wish I could tell you the best place to pull up, but I’m not sure. It’s a pretty neat place to walk around. Bring a gallon of deet

Also truth. Those little barrier islands are loaded with rattle snakes.

Thanks. I would never have thought about snakes until last summer. I went up on an island in search of fiddler crabs. Once I crossed the dunes and saw tracks In the sand I new I was in the wrong place.

you outted a triple top secret giggin spot. might wanna edit that

How’s that? I never go there really. Only been once and that was ages ago. It’s even outside my old day stomping grounds and as I don’t have a boat right not far outside my current stomping grounds.

GW, I’m sorry about that. I sounded smart alecky and smug. I apologize. really

I liked the story. the part about that very special location tends to attract internet giggers who are looking for “spots” and shortcuts. that was all i was sayin. i liked the story.

i found that spot fair and square like i find my fishin spots. I guide scout the pro’s

No need to apologize Peapod. I don’t want to give away anyone’s spot. Honestly with how the sands change around here I’m sure what I described is long gone.

Plus it’s not a very accessible location. The bay you have to go through to get there is very shallow which isn’t very productive for someone trying to gig.
