Has anyone fished it recently? I’m coming this weekend in hopes of spotting some tails and was hoping for a report. I have a couple of spots on the cape, but I don’t know how cooperative the weather will be for the run from Buck Hall out there…
Fished it a couple weeks ago. Some small reds and a lot of bite offs and missed hits. Found plenty of sharks and rays. Saw best action around hi tide. Was our first trip - beautiful area.

worst summer of fishing up there that i can ever remember. last trip yielded 2 spottails. and to many sharks to count.
Thanks for the replies guys! Unfortunately reservations have already been made, and I’m going to be camping through this weather this weekend. I’m trailering my boat 300 miles to fish and have the vacation time already allocated. It is a beautiful area, I have made multiple trips there over the last 15 years. Years ago I was evacuated from Buck Hall in hurricane Francis, I caught seven fish on the flats before the hurricane made landfall that year. Hopefully just rain this weekend, I can kind of deal with that.
Tight lines!
Let us know how you did. I fished yday in bulls bay, fishin was just fine

A fairly successful trip. I learn quite a bit every time I come down.
That 8 inches of rain that you folks got last weekend was miserable to camp through. California prunes had nothing on these Tennessee boys. I think we were soaked for two days straight. Sat out on the flats through numerous thunderstorms the first two days. Weather cleared up Monday afternoon and got hot, sat with my friend and fished in one of the inlets for a few hours, we got a couple of sharks around four to five feet. On the last day, I pulled the hook on that one that was over 30 inches. My biggest problem is fishing when the flood tide is finished. I have never been successful catching Reds anywhere, unless I was sight fishing for them on the flats.
On a secondary note, I had plenty of water the first two days when the storm system was moving through. On Tuesday and Wednesday however, I think the wind may have kept some of the water off of the flat, as it did not flood as much as I had expected.
I think you got the hard part figured out

As we were stranded around the side of Morants point, near the oyster bar, a very nice red probably around 28 to 30 inches came right at the boat in the flow just beyond where we were stuck. I didn’t really get a shot at him. But for all you folks that live in the area, the shrimp were starting to get nice and fat.
Blind casted and got about a I half of a gallon for dinner the second night we were there. I can’t imagine how nice they will be in another 2 to 3 weeks during season. I am quite jealous.
Good catch! I come down from TN at least once a year as well and chase the reds. I love the low country! Your right, I learn something new every time down…

That’s my home town there…raised in the creeks around cape romain…can close my eyes and imagine myself going down each creek with my daddy…fishing, shrimping, oystering…running crab pots. You are right. It is a beautiful place. One I will always treasure and hold dear.
I’m glad you got to fish it and enjoy it’s beauty. Hope the weather will be better for you next time . Penn
