I am taking my girlfriend out to the island in the next couple weeks for the first time. Anyone have any idea what we might catch or tips on how or where to fish. Current plan is to go near the driftwood trees and throw carolina rigs out on a with maybe some mullet or shrimp we can catch with a cast net in one of the creeks. Any advice greatly appreciated!
Would i need something heaveir than 15lb test and 25lb leader? would a wire leader be smart in case of sharks?
I can tell you from experience to watch out for oysters + crap in those creeks with your net! better to cast on the surf side, esp if you find a pool or trough.
You can target sharks and reds off that beach. For my personal preference 15 lb line is a good smaller bait set up line, but doesn’t cut the mustard for targeting big reds or sharks. If you land a big red in the bone yard your talking about fishing-around the stumps, it would be a challenge for you to control and not loose. Surf fishing red rods I use 30lb, Shark rods 50-65lb line. Lots of info in the surf fishing forum,welcome to the sight and good luck!
