Other than the Charleston jetties, is there any way to exit the ICW safely for a shorter route? Looks like Breach Inlet is a serious no. I see Dewees and Capers inlets but unsure.
Thanks.

Breech is a no no.
Where are you putting in?
I was considering IOP and paying the fee. Otherwise I drop in at Remleys all the time.
I figured at least one ship captain would have responded.
Imo, its worth the fee to drop in at iop and go out dewees especially if you are going to capers reef.
Dewees is pretty easy to get in/out of. Going at low tide when its calm is the easiest because you can see the breakers more easily. In a small boat (outboards), it is possible to safely navigate the inlet at all stages of tide. When heading out, you track will dogleg to the right a little before you can truly head straight offshore. i’ve gone in/out of breech before, but would never recommend it to anyone.
I’ve never piloted a boat through Dewees, but I’ve ridden out that way several times on a 22foot bay and a 24 foot sportfish. You’ll see breaker to the left and farther south toward IOP, more breakers. You head out almost in a 1 or 2 O’Clock after passing between the islands.
Depending on the tide and the swells it can give you the heebee jeebees when you see the depth get pretty skinny. Take it easy…avoid breakers, don’t turn left too soon.

Thank you very much for the input. Dewees looked feasible but wanted to get confirmation from more “salty” captains first.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

For most of the 80’s that was my only route offshore.
In my experience polyball, not every boat can fit under the bridge at all stages of tide, additionally the “channel” (kind of a generous term for breeh inlet) is not nearly as deep, calm, or consistent as dewees.
