on the Cooper…
Well, we really wanted to go bottom bumpin’ today or tomorrow, but our schedules wouldn’t allow it. Not that I am really good at any fishing, but I am very limited at my inshore experience. With the schedule and wx issues, my little boat hasn’t been able to make it out on the big pond lately, so Jazzed has put me on some inshore fun that has been a blast and somewhat productive each trip!
We headed out before daylight this morning in hopes of catching a few reds before that fireball got too high. With my ignorance of inshore fishing, I had minimal expectations where we were headed with the high tide and wind, but, once again, Jazzed came through and we caught some fushies. We both started off throwing TW baits with a bunch of boils, but no tight lines. We then moved a bit to another area where I lost a couple of bluefish close to the boat. I stayed with the TW, but Jazzy switched to a swim bait. It wasn’t long before I could here his reel losing line. He landed a nice slot red. A little after that I, still working the TW bait, had a nice explosion behind my bait with no hookup. I did not break stride on my retrieve, and the fish exploded on the bait once again. This time, I noticed slack growing in my line. I had no choice but to reel like crazy and pull back. It was on! All we could hear was line peeling. We could see that beautiful color here and there. When we got the nice red to the boat, I noticed that I could not see the lure. The red just gulped it up. I was almost scared to peek in its mouth, I figured it had it way down. Luckily, it did not swallow it too far, and the lure came out pretty easy! It wasn’t the biggest red that I have ever caught, but it was the biggest red I have ever caught on TW and using light tackle(my first TW red was last trip).
Next, Jazzy reeled in a keeper sized trout using a jig, before catching another slot red on it. He also caught a nice sized bluefish and a croaker using a jig.
At this point, I had switched from TW to a RF
