Carb Cleaning

I am rebuilding a carb from my 1979 Johnson 25hp. I ordered the rebuild kit but need to clean it. I have already taken the bowl off and punched out the plugs. My question is, will a carb soaking cleaner damage the jets or anything else on the carb? I attached some pics because well, pictures make every post better.

Carb cleaners will not hurt any of the metal parts in the carb. Just follow the directions for what can and cannot go in it.

Probably gaskets and rubber and plastics are not allowed…so strip the carb down to the metal parts and throw it in the bucket.

OK thanks. Just wanted to make sure.

Clean that junk out of the cowling before reassembling

You could grow potted plants inside that cowling[:0] The carb isn’t the only thing that needs some work.

HA. I know. She is a work in progress. That is actually rotten wasp nest. The top of the cowling was filled with them. The boat and motor has been sitting at a farm for the past 5 years.

on that old of a motor you will be fine soaking the carb in cleaner
all the newer carbs, especially Yamaha and Honda have a finish on the aluminum and soaking them in the cleaner will damage the finish and the aluminum will cause some kind of white powdery corrosion to grow, and you will forever struggle to keep themotor running properly.
