having trouble with my merc 150 saltwater series. Friends say the carb needs to be cleaned out or rebuilt. Dont have a lot of $ to spend and was wondering how much labor is involved in this task vs. how much parts will run me? Is this something a novice mechanic can handle myself or do I just need to suck it up and fork out the $ for a real mechanic?
I am very much a novice mechanic and successfully dissasembled and cleaned carburetors several times. I have only rebuilt the carbs on an old Mopar I once had and my lawn mower
Chris V and his guys use an ultra-sonic cleaner on carbs and related parts. They will clean your carb better than you can do it yourself. IMO. They did a great job on my little 25 Johnson on my jon boat. It’s a 1976 and runs like a singer sewing machine now.
