My 1996 25 hp johnson will not idle and sneezes when the throttle is wide open, so I decided to rebuild and clean the carb. I noticed that the jet running down the cent of the top half of the carb to the bowl is slightly bent. Could this possibly be the issue? It looks like I can’t replace it, which means buying a new carb.
Edit: Its the jet that runs through the center of the float.
Sounds like a bent metering rod. The rod should stick down into the jet. Need to take the jet out and blow through it. Put the jet back in and straighten the rod out. Look at the top of the rod it probably has a few notches on it. Make sure to get the clip back in the right notch.

Thanks, Matt. That appears to be what it is! Now I just have to figure how the heck to get it out so I can straighten it. It does not appear to be held in by a screw, but almost looks welded to the top of the carb.
Not sure exactly what you have , but normally an e clip are a c clip holds it in. I’m working now but when I get home l will look and see if I have one to go by.
