Hello,
Dad just moved to the area and he’s thinking about joining the Carefree Boat Club. Anyone have opinions on the club? Boats typically available?
Thanks!

I’m not familiar with that particular club, but in general, I would think it would be hard to find a single person on a site like this that would think timesharing a boat is a good idea.
They have a club up here on Murray and you can get a boat in 4 hour blocks. I’m sure they push the idea of not having to worry about maintenance or storage, but that 4 hour block I would think is a deal breaker for most.
With that said, if he is not a fisherman, has lots of time off during the week and would just enjoy having access to different types of boats without the burden of having to worry about upkeep or storage it may work well for him.

They use to use our marina ,it was fun to watch them come back and try to dock,lucky for me they were not next to me
They were better neighbors than my current ones though#128545;

He’s retired so most of his boating would occur during off time of week days. Both the bro-in-law and I have 22’ bay boats that we tow. Dad doesn’t have a tow vehicle and isn’t planning to buy one. Think he wants the “freedom” of using without bothering us during the week nor dealing with maintenance and dry stack fees.

I don’t know that outfit, but my brother has been a member of the Freedom Boat Club for about 10 years in Savannah. It’s a good deal for people who don’t want the hassle of taking care of and storing and hauling a boat. They have a wide variety of boats to choose from, everything from deck boats to ski boats to small and mid size center console fishing boats. All of them are well maintained and well equipped. I’ve been out with him on several of them. They have locations all over, including Charleston, and a member can use boats from any of them when on vacation or whatever.

Charlestown Patriot-Bridge Club in Boston has a one time fee of $5,900 with a monthly fee of $349 plus the fuel you burn. Mind you, these are for 10 and 8 people boats.
Occasionally you will find someone selling their membership on Craigslist.
I think you can save on the initial fees depending on the deal.
