CD–Just got back from KI, sorry I couldn’t take you up on the offer for today. Believe me, I was thinking about it the whole five hours back to A’ville. Thanks for posting the report. First time fishing with CD–very impressive, never seen anyone so relentless to put the boat on fish. At about 2 pm after picking up a dolphin every hour or so (and seeing the blues), he suggested pulling up lines and moving out another 10 miles with the easterly wind to 600 ft where there were reports of a nice mahi catch. Just about then, Micheal with his keen vision (radiologist by trade) spotted a floating log. Had barnacles on it and looked like it had been out there a while. First pass, three rods go down but boated only one mahi. CD did his best at giving instruction, but fishing with a crew that has only trolled a max of 4 rods at a time (I have 20 ft Scout and have never experienced fishing with the outriggers which add substantially more complexity)–made it a challenge when it came to clearing lines. Looked for the log again for 45 mins but couldn’t relocate it. Seeing the blues was definitely the highlight of the day for everyone, got the heart pumping first thing in the AM. Michael is going to be bringing the 32 ft Ellis up from ?Tybee Is. in late July. He hopes you will join us later this summer and give us lesson #2. Let me know when you’re back up in A’ville and we’ll get a beer.

Ben, that Ellis looks interesting. Should work well for Michael. Let me know when he brings it up and we will try her out. Where is he going to keep her?

I’m glad you weren’t planning on fishing w/ me yesterday, that wouldn’t have worked too well… hopefully we will have the CD up and running soon.

That would have made for a long day heading back to A’ville. Michael plans to keep the boat at Bohickett. Cleaning out the Scout today I noticed in the under deck locker compartment that the four screws holding the gas tank have ripped out. The tank has slid back about 3 inches toward the transom. Another 2 inches and it would have crushed the bilge pump and other thru hulls like a bowling pin. Hard to believe all that was holding a 70 gallon fuel tank was 4 screws. Seems like they should have had some backing plates in front and brackets in back. Thinking about where to take it. There is no place in Asheville that I would trust to do the job. Thinking about taking it to Mid Carolina Marine in Columbia during my next trip down. I know you’ve got some ties to Columbia, you know anything about teh service at Mid Carolina?
