Carla Dee 6/22

Late report. Fun day of fishing. Fished the high 400s from the ledge to 500’. Spent most of the day on a weedline in 460’. Weed was scattered, but there were fish there. Caught 10 mauis. One was adult, right around 50lbs. There were 3 caught all right around the same size on the same weedline. Pulled off a juvie sailfish, no bigger than 15lbs. Neat bite from the little guy. Lots of peanuts around, but a few good fish mixed in… pulled the baits away from about 20 flip flops. Pulled off 1 other very nice maui and had a wahoo eat our teaser and take it with him.

Congrats to Blue Marlin Jamie for an epic day.

And oh yeah, almost forgot. I blew up my motor on the way in… thanks to Sea Tow and Captain Doug for the ride. Any comments on new engines appreciated. Anyone needs Opti parts, let me know!

CD, sounds like you guys had a great day, sorry to hear about your motor…We did not hear you call sea tow, must have been late.

RR

Sorry to hear about the motor, that is typical of a Merc. Been there and done that.

Didnt you fish today?

He took the bait like a jugbelly redfish on an olive and white clouser.

Sorry about the engine Carla Dee. I replaced 2 powerheads last year. No fun. They have held up nice but I’d go with a new one like you said. I Met John last week at a poker game/cook out. Not sure if he fished with you today but I know he’s usually with you. Suzuki’s are priced pretty nicely compaired to others I looked at. Friend just had 2 new ones put on & loves them. Pretty dependable from what I hear. Hope your up and running soon.

That can ruin a good day of fishing

fritz - interesting that you ask. we had an epic day on the big sharks w/ this famous adventure outdoors character. ever heard of him? thanks again. i will get up w/ you tomorrow pm.

guy - yeah, john slept in this time. zuks look like the way to go. maybe the 300 so i can go fast.

and the merc held up pretty well. 1500 hours. not too shabby.

riffraff - nice fish you got yourselves there, good going.

Daniel

bad to hear about your motor,

get a new 4 stroke suzuki

how far were you when the motor failed? did you have any problems talking to sea tow or coast guard?

Fernando

Question–how many lines did you have in the water while waiting for sea tow? I’m guessing 3-4, and 7 when back underway with sea tow. Sorry about the motor–you were pretty ■■■■ close to knowing it’s lifespan, though.

Glad you made it in safely. I have had 4 honda motors, 2 yammy 4 strokes,2 johnson 2 strokes,1yam2 stroke. My son had the optimax and went through 3 powerheads before he sold it.I would only buy 4stroke.
I personally would recommend honda or yamaha because those are the ones I’ve had.
Just remember when deciding between 2and 4 stroke that all modern day automobiles have 4 stroke engines and there is a reason for this.

I’m The guy with the new suzukis. Hanckel has shi^^y service, if I may opine. Call Chris V.

“hanckel has shi^^y service.” OUCH!

d & fritz, did ya’ll fish the rocks? any reds or poons?
hate it on the engine. maby hollingsworth can help you out. good luck.

I’ve heard lots of good talk about the suzukis. Good to hear more. Chris is definitely the guy.

fernando - The skip on the VHF was great on Friday. I spoke to Tolers 60 miles offshore - they were trying to confirm Jamie’s epic day. Engine let go 2.5 miles off the jetties, so it was no trouble hailing Sea Tow.

Ben - we debated putting lines out, but the crew was very focused on the beverages, so I started calling about new engines while they cleaned out the cooler.

johnny - we were strictly chasing toothy fish, no fancy tarpons or yuppies reds — we had a blast sight casting to the blacktips.

That’s one way to ruin a great day of fishing.

I’m a fisherman.

CD,
Sorry to hear about your motor! That can always ruin a fishing
day! Sounds like you did pretty good though!

~Offshore is where I will always belong~

didn’t ruin the day, just extended it by about 2 hours. the opti served well… her time was due. she even had the heart to let go within sight of land. let me know what ya’ll think about the zuks and/or the newer opti’s…

CD sorry bout your engine but in my opinion a motor bracket and twin f150 yams or zuks is the wauy to go i will call u later:sunglasses:
