Just sold one boat and looking at possibly getting another. Was gonna put the money in my house but now thinking about getting getting anotheer boat. Found a 17’ Carolina Skiff DLX. Its not the semi v, that carolina skiff is now producing, its the classic carolina skiff hull. What are yalls thoughts? Always heard biggst ngativ is that they are a rough ride. I like the fact that they are tough boats and no frills. What are yalls thoughts on 'em? Pros/Cons???
Definitly tough little boats for sure and reasonably priced due to no frills. Can be a little rough on the body in a chop across the harbor and a bit on the wet side, but all in all a great little boat for the money IMO.

‘Depends on where you want to boat. If you’re going to be in protected water and want a shallow draft, then its a good fit. If you want to hit the jetties or harbor or St. Helena area or similar, I would get something with a V in it. Pounding a flat bottom boat through 2-1/2’ chop beats everything pretty hard, including the boat. The hull is literally not made for that. So, 'depends on where you want to boat.
I have the 17 DLX and take it jetties all the time. It does fine you just cant get there at wide open throttle. The boat is stable and sturdy as a rock. It is also very dry but does beat you up a little in chop. Very simple to keep clean and perform maintenance on. Good all around boat especially for what they cost
I think they are great boats, but just like any boat they have their limitations. I had two when I was growing up, started with a 14 wide with tiller 25 and then got a 16 narrow later on with center console and 30. I knew the boats limits (chop mostly) and was very pleased with using them as creek/river boats. The biggest thing to keep in mind with these boats is the HP. If you don’t have enough power behind them, they take forever to plane off and perform even worse in rough water because you can’t maintain a good speed or jump on it when you need to get over a wave. Make sure to get the max rated HP for what ever boat you are looking at.
I have a 17DLX and love it for what I do with it. I mostly put in at Hobcaw Yacht Club and tool up and down the Wando and adjoining creeks. For that it’s perfect. If I wanted to go to the jetties, and even some days just out in the harbor, I wouldn’t buy this boat. It has tons of space and will get REALLY skinny, but with any significant wind or chop, I just stay home because I want to be able to bend over and pick up stuff I’ve dropped when I’m 50. So in a nutshell, I agree with what PalmerScott said, it just depends on what you want to do with it. It’s a great creek, low chop boat, and can get into places that no V-hull will ever get, but if your goal is to go to the jetties every weekend or even to the nearshore reef, this is not the boat for you. Hope this helps.

The 17’ and 19’ have models with both a 6’ and 8’ beam. I imagine the narrower models would be more manuverable in the shallows, but other than that, if you are looking at a DLX, I would definately go with the 8’ beam (DLXxx8).
