Carolina skiff DLV

Me and the old man just finished restoring our 15 and 17 whalers. . .we are contemplating selling both to get a Carolina skiff DLV. . .probably a 19 footer. What say y’all about these boats? Below I’ve numbered what we will be using the boat for. .in order of importance.

  1. Recreational shrimping
  2. Inshore river fishing.
  3. Parking in the grass to walk flats
  4. Jetties fishing
  5. Pleasure cruisin
  6. The occasional 20 mile trip offshore. . . .on a glassy day.

I had a 23DLV with a 150Yamaha 4stroke and did all of the above, I liked the boat and felt safe in it, but it went with the economy.

I really enjoy mine. It fits the bill for what you have in mind perfectly.

Nice boat there dorado. When I get back in the market for a new boat, I plan on taking a serious look at these.

Thanks J, the DLV line is nice. The 19, 21, 23, and 25 are all about the same except for the distance from the console to the bow deck. The 25 is very roomy!!!

Oh man, nice rig Dorado. . I’d love the look of these boats. Their semi-v hull reminds me of the older whalers, and the space/room distribution seems perfect for what I love to do. How is the ride?

I guess it is completely subjective, but, I don’t see how you guys can ride in a flat bottom boat in any chop. I’m sure the CS boats are well constructed, but, I have to have some dead rise in the hull to ride comfortably for any length of time.

Is there any ‘V’ in the transom of any of the Carolina Skiffs?

Yeah that’s why I was asking about the ride. . .I usually try to avoid windy/choppy days and I am barely ever in the harbor unless I’m on my way to shrimping grounds. .most of my time I slowly cruising the rivers/creeks. However, from what I’ve heard the DLV’s are surprisingly calm in the chop. I can’t imagine anything being much worse than my Whaler, god bless her.

i have a 218dlv and added trim tabs…made a huge difference in the ride.i mainly am in the lakes but i did get it offshore 25 miles last summer(before the tabs)…

definately test ride one before you buy,it maybe as bad as your whaler.

for what i do i love it,it is very fuel efficient.

Hey Buckwheat. The boat does pound in a short chop head sea. I gotta tell you that!!! It rides great and is very stable in any open swell and I feel very safe in this rig. I have not had the tabs installed yet, but I plan on having that done over the winter when the shop staff at Hankell isn’t so busy.
